NHEV Finalizes Pledge for First 16 Strategic Locations to Power India’s Next Generation of E-Highways

NHEV has accepted the pledge for its first 16 strategic locations for NHEV 3G Energy Stations under the Commencement Phase, marking an important step in the ground-level development of the National E-Highway network.

Following the start of commencement phase in April 2026, NHEV has progressed with strategic location identification, land parcel finalization and on-ground planning. The first 16 strategic locations have now been finalized in line with the Q2 FY26 target.

From Planning to Ground-Level Implementation

The 16 strategic locations represent the next stage in the development of NHEV’s E-Highway network.

With the locations identified and land parcels finalised, the focus now moves towards detailed technical & commercial assessment, followed by on-ground preparations and station allocation.

NHEV is targeting the completion of technical & commercial assessment by the end of November 2026, with construction of the NHEV 3G Energy Stations targeted to begin from January 2027.

What These 16 Locations Represent

The selection of these 16 strategic locations marks an important transition for NHEV’s Commencement Phase — from planning and location identification towards on-ground deployment.

These sites are not intended to function as isolated charging points. They are planned as part of an integrated, technology-enabled E-Highway ecosystem, supporting the broader development of the NHEV network.

The Next Stage

With the first 16 strategic locations finalised, NHEV’s immediate focus is on:

On-Ground Site Visits by NHEV Partners and Stakeholders

Partner engagement through visits to the identified locations.

Technical & Commercial Assessment

Completion of the technical & commercial assessment for the identified station sites by the end of November 2026.

Lease Finalisation

Setting up the escrow mechanism to support the lease finalisation process.

Station Allocation through PPP

Progressing station allotment across the Public, Private and People/Investment (PPP) segments, with prospective allottees being considered across defined sector categories, while targeting the commencement of construction by January 2027.

16 Locations. One Vision for the Future.

Through these 16 strategic locations, NHEV takes another step closer to building an Electric, Electronic and Efficient highway ecosystem — one that brings to life, the ambition of a Common, Connected, Convenient, Congestion-free, Charged, Clean and Cutting-edge mobility network into reality — in spirit of the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, for a new era of smarter, cleaner and future-ready mobility.

The future of India’s highways will be defined not just by the roads we build, but by the possibilities we create through them. The finalisation of these 16 strategic locations marks an important step towards translating the vision of E-Highways into reality, bringing India closer to a connected, efficient and future-ready mobility ecosystem. It is a step towards reimagining how the country moves, grows and connects.

Shri Abhijeet Sinha – Program Director, NHEV

The way we plan our infrastructure today will shape how India moves for decades to come. The E-Highway vision represents an opportunity to bring sustainability, innovation and connectivity into the very fabric of highway development, helping build a mobility ecosystem that serves the aspirations of a growing nation. It is also aligned to the bigger vision of ‘Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority’ recently approved by the Union Cabinet.

Shri Sudhendu J. Sinha – Principal Adviser, EoDB

At the heart of every infrastructure milestone is the difference it can make to people’s lives. A more connected E-Highway network can help make journeys more convenient, support cleaner mobility and create a better travel experience for generations to come. That is what makes this journey meaningful beyond the infrastructure itself.

Ms. Astha Kukreti – Executive Director, EoDB Services Pvt. Ltd.

Turning a vision into reality takes thoughtful planning and steady progress at every stage. With the first 16 locations finalised for NHEV 3G Energy Stations, the focus is on carrying this momentum forward and laying the groundwork for an Electric, Electronic & Efficient highway network that is practical, connected and ready for the needs of tomorrow.

Shri Abhishek Gupta – Project Director, Greenways
